Department of Homeland Security Nebraska Ave Complex: Nebraska Ave. Complex Buildings 19 and 61

Project Overview

This project included the replacement of Building 61 and renovations to Building 19. Approximately 39,000 GSF of new Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) office space was incorporated into the project.

Details

Special security measures were adopted for all construction personnel and material deliveries to maintain the safety of the campus. Ennis Electric performed as a subcontractor in a team with the general contractor, Grunley Construction, to provide a complete electrical system, including selective demolition, underground ductbanks and manholes, network power distribution, lighting, fire alarm and security for both buildings. Building 19 was occupied throughout the course of construction and all utilities remained in operation.

Challenges included the integration of new utilities and systems without disturbances to the occupants and the careful coordination of new feeders and cable trays through limited ceiling spaces. Three existing switchboards in Building 19 were disconnected from their transformers and re-powered from Building 61. Underground medium voltage ductbanks were placed below existing roads. Power outages involving multiple buildings.
